  Introduction

The e-Learning center in Mansoura University has developed its own Web-based videoconferencing system in order to enhance both teaching and learning. This system is a valuable tool in facilitating interaction and collaboration in education. It can open the door to endless new educational opportunities that would not otherwise be available.

The Mansoura University 's Videoconferencing (MUVC) enables participants to see, hear, and communicate with others at remote sites. MUVC use compressed digital video to broadcast moving images, audi o, and graphics over the Internet.

MUVC is a software based system that requires only webcams and speakers in addition to the users screen and supports any number of users. Desktop VC is the technology which is bringing videoconferencing back into focus.

Hardware based videoconferencing requires expensive, fixed delivery and reception installations and high transmission costs over full band width analogue video channels or high capacity digital channels. High costs and lack of flexibility has limited the past educational uses. Recent developments in video compression and codec technology is increasing the use of relatively low bandwidth connections using a variety of display formats.
